p1050300I am often asked how and why I started making and decorating celebration cakes. As a young Mum I was keen to find an occupation that allowed me to be a stay at home Mum. I had trained in catering at the well respected ‘Toast Rack’ in Manchester and worked in the hotel industry for a while. A change of career involved a move to London where I had a successful career as a Buyer for Unilever until starting my lovely family. I was called upon to make cakes and bakes for birthdays in the office even then!

The first cake I made for Emily’s 1st Birthday was a labour of love and took two days to finish (see below) – clearly not a commercially viable commission. For her 2nd Birthday it had to be her beloved Postman Pat and the look on her face (see above) made all the hours of work worthwhile. Who could not be inspired by that little girls expression as she saw her cake. I was now trueley hooked and spent the next year studying the craft at evening classes to refine my cake decorating skills. Cakes for all my small nieces and nephews allowed me to practice my skills too. The rest as they say is history……22 years later here I am with my own cake business 🙂 Oh and this little girl is following in my footsteps helping me with some of the modelling work on my cakes. Watch this space……..
